Motivational Monday! Self-Care for Business Owners

Welcome to the first week of our new “Motivational Monday” series! This week we are focusing on something extremely important: self-care for business owners! We want this to be as stress-free as possible, and are starting out with small changes with big results!

It may sound cliché, but it’s true…..

You need to take care of yourself in order to be able to take care of your business.  Our businesses are our pride and joy, but our physical and mental health should be too. Plus it’s so much easier to connect with our clients when we are happy and refreshed!

Start the day by eating a healthy breakfast!

It’s crucial to fuel your mind and body first thing in the morning. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy! Something as simple as oats and fruit will keep your mind and body fuelled until lunchtime.

Make time to spend with others!

Human connection can bring us a sense of closeness and belonging. Family, friends, and community. All of these connections have a positive influence on our health. Calculate how much time per week you’re spending working vs how much quality time you’re spending with others, and use that as a starting point to see where changes can be made. For example, try dedicating Sundays to family, and lunch breaks during the week can be spent with friends.

Take breaks and get out into nature!

A walk outside on your break will do wonders for your body and mind! Try to put your phone away and clear your mind as much as you can. Meditative playlists can help, and there are many available on YouTube/Spotify/Apple Music etc. Throw on a pair of headphones and you’re ready to go!

Enjoy some “me” time!

It’s important to prioritize having alone time, to rest and recharge. Find something that you enjoy doing in the company of yourself! Turn yourself into a human burrito and binge-watch some Netflix, read that book you’ve always wanted to read, or finish that painting that’s been sitting in the spare bedroom.

Delegate, delegate, delegate!

Often we feel the need to be a superhero (and you 100% are!) However, that shouldn’t mean that we have to take on everything ourselves. It’s stressful and not sustainable! Try to let go of control a little and put your trust in others, even if it’s just starting out with one task per week! Before you know it, delegating will come naturally!

Laughter is the best medicine!

If you are feeling stressed, take some time to watch a funny YouTube video, or some humorous Tiktoks! There’s something out there for everyone. Even if you are finding it hard, fake a laugh and a smile, it will soon become a real one! Try it, it works! (I see you fake smiling now – and it looks GREAT on you!)

Do that one thing you’ve been wanting to do!

Staycation for the weekend? YES, please! This is where our newly learned delegation skills will come in handy! Relax and enjoy it! Everything will be fine and you’ll only ever be a phone call away if there are any emergencies.

Increase your endorphins!

Exercising can seem exhausting and time-consuming, but even little amounts can be beneficial. Try signing up for a local fitness class! It’s also a great way to spend time with others in the community!

Try to get enough sleep!

Getting enough sleep helps us to reach our full potential and be productive during the work day. 7-8 hours is recommended and helps increase our memory, concentration, and overall wellbeing. Turn off your electronics at least 30 minutes before bed. This is a good opportunity to read a book! I’ll give you bonus points for sleepy puppy snuggles.
